Spring 2019

Matt Hill joined the Peru State College faculty in September, 2014 as Director of Choral Activities. His teaching duties at PSC include: Music Theory, Music History, Choral Methods, and direction of the Concert Chorale and Chamber Choir.

Matt was born and raised in Bellevue, NE, and has spent the majority of his personal and professional life in Eastern Nebraska; save two years in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where he earned a Master’s degree in choral conducting as a Graduate Assistant at Oklahoma State University in 2012, under the tutelage of Dr. Z. Randall Stroope.

Additionally, Matt has completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and graduated in May 2019.

Honors and Awards:

In October, 2014, Matt was notified of his induction into the Oklahoma State University Music Education Hall of Fame as its inaugural member.

In November, 2015, Matt was honored as the “Young Choral Director of the Year” by the Nebraska Choral Directors Association.

Related Professional Activity:

Matt founded “Sing Omaha Inc.” in January, 2007. This 501c3 non-profit organization serves as Nebraska’s Premier K-12/adult choral arts organization, and is comprised of seven choirs, which serve more than 250 singers in Douglas and Sarpy County each year.

In September, 2015, Matt opened Sing Omaha Studios, a public-facing location for teaching private voice lessons, and other voice-instruction related camps and workshops.

In addition to his work with Sing Omaha, Matt has served in music ministry steadily since 2003, and has performed as a conductor, chorister, and featured soloist with numerous local and regional ensembles.

Matt regularly serves as a guest clinician for district festivals and honor choirs, and is called upon to adjudicate show choir competitions in the Midwest.

Also in 2014, he incorporated “Matt Hill Arts” to promote his work as a composer, conductor, clinician, and lecturer. A new website for the endeavor is in the works, and will be launched soon at www.matthillarts.com.

Matt is grateful for the warm welcome he has received from students and faculty alike, and is excited to journey with you as we build upon the strong choral tradition at Peru State College.
