Dr. Martinelli has been an online instructor for Peru State College since 2011 to
date, teaching such classes as Introduction to Meteorology and Climatology and Introduction
to Earth and Physical Science.
Dr. Jay Martinelli was born and raised in upstate NY. He was always fascinated with
severe weather of any kind and knew from the time he was in kindergarten that he wanted
to be a meteorologist. He earned his BS in Atmospheric Sciences from the State University
of NY at Albany and his MS and PhD from Saint Louis University. After graduation,
he moved to Omaha, NE where he began his career as an Atmospheric Sciences faculty
member at Creighton University. He developed and taught many meteorology classes ranging
from introductory to graduate level. After a few years at Creighton, Dr. Martinelli
accepted a position with the Department of Defense as Meteorologist for the Air Force.
His current position is in the 16th Weather Squadron where he is a member of the Numerical
Models Team specializing in Data Assimilation.
Dr. Martinelli loves teaching and prides himself on delivering as personal an experience
as possible for an online course. In his spare time, Dr. Martinelli loves to spend
time with his wife and two children, run, lift weights, and is an avid Cubs fan!
