Qualifications


  • Full time, upper-class, undergraduate student at Peru State College.
  • Served for at least one year as a Top Cat or been in another student leadership role at the College.
  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher at the time of application and maintain it during the period of the appointment.
  • Must not be on disciplinary probation within the same year application is submitted.
  • Have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must provide excellent customer service while maintaining confidentiality and respect.
  • Must be self-motivated and demonstrate the ability to follow through with each task to completion.
  • Attendance at Welcome Week Committee monthly planning meetings and all of fall training prior to the start of Welcome Week.
  • Commit to working a minimum of 5 hours monthly (October- July) in the Student Organizations office, work the week of every summer orientation and move in early August to assist with training and final Welcome Week planning.
  • Must be enrolled at Peru State Fall 2024 and available to attend Welcome Weekend staff trainings/events in August 2024.

Responsibilities


  • Be present at all fall and spring training.
  • Work cohesively with Welcome Week Planning Committee to ensure all staff members increase their knowledge and understanding of the program and the College’s values, are properly trained for the Welcome Weekend conference and Welcome Week events, and for various situations that may arise (i.e., emergencies, schedule changes, customer service).
  • Work cohesively with other Staff Assistants in the development, coordination, and maintenance of conference schedule.
  • Work with the Director of Student Activities to research, communicate with, and book speakers for the conference. This includes assisting with reviewing speaker needs.
  • Liaison between PSC offices/departments to prepare and maintain logistical procedures of Welcome Week including reserving rooms on campus for all conference needs (i.e., trainings, excursion locations, speaker locations); and assisting with coordinating PSC Orientation events regarding Welcome Week.
  • Assist in all aspects of the Welcome Week conference including planning and improving special events, assisting in advertisement and publicity efforts, and registration and check-in procedures.
  • Attend bi-monthly office meetings with the Welcome Week Committee and fellow Staff Assistant to keep open communication and awareness of ongoing work.
  • Commit to working 5 hours monthly, in the Student Organizations office on Welcome week planning.
  • Assist in the evaluation and growth of the conference by providing effective and constructive feedback regarding the Top Cat program and participate in outreach programs.
  • Assist in the management of participants and staff during the Welcome Week conference including having the ability to troubleshoot and resolve minor situations.
  • Keep up with and respond to daily correspondence (phone, email, in-person etc.).
  • Drive state vehicles when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
