Special Education
There are three Special Education endorsement options that will endorse an individual to teach special education (Mild/Moderate Disabilities) in grades K-6, 7-12, K-12. These programs will prepare students to work with exceptional students in inclusive settings. The outcomes of this program are for prospective teachers to understand and serve students with disabilities, plan appropriate education in highly diverse environments, and collaboratively work with other educators, families and support personnel. This program is for individuals who desire to change the lives of children with special needs.
What makes the program unique?
- All Teacher Education programs at Peru State College are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
- Special Education majors learn the Nebraska Student Record System in order to create web-based Individualized Education Program documents.
- Special Education majors interact with Pre K to age 21 students in numerous school districts in the surrounding area.
- Practicum and student teaching experiences ensure learning opportunities that cannot be matched in the college classroom.
- Teacher candidates receive training on standards and assessment throughout the Teacher Education program.
