Peru, Nebraska – In early February, Peru State College Professor of Business, Dr. Sheri Grotrian, attended and presented at the 42nd Annual Conference on the First-Year Experience (FYE) in Los Angeles, California. The annual conference provides a forum for higher education professionals’ insights related to supporting student learning, development, and success in the first year of college.

Grotrian’s presentation was collaboratively developed with Mr. Brad Griffin, Instructor of Business. The message discusses a team-teaching technique that was utilized the previous semester for students who had declared Business Administration as their major. The presentation, “Team Teaching Experience in a FYE College Success Course,” had attendees from a wide range of disciplines and institutions across the nation.

“Having taught College Success at Peru State since 2009, I have been eager to implement new approaches of instruction as we continue to see evolvement of many aspects of students entering the college classroom.” Grotrian continues, “In Business Administration specifically, there tends to be a higher number of students enrolled in this introductory course; thus, the need to focus on various ways of meeting students in a personalized manner. We tout ourselves as being a close-knit, family-like community. I work to ensure that philosophy is truly carried out.”

The Annual Conference on the First-Year Experience offers educators from every segment of higher education an environment to share new ideas and programming efforts, theory and research related to the learning, development, and success of first-year students, as well as an many informal engaging opportunities to network professionally.
