“’Cats from the Past” was the 2023 Homecoming theme and there were quite a few Bobcat alumni, family, and friends who attended this year’s activities.

The Foundation started their weekend by hosting and honoring alumni with a reception at the President’s home and then the All-College banquet. Alumni from the classes of 1963 and 1973 enjoyed reminiscing and sharing stories of when they were at Peru State and what has happened during the past 50 or 60 years.

Those attending the All-College banquet were treated to a special addition to the program as former Peru State Emeritus Professor of English, Dr. Dan Holtz, and Dr. Gary Zalud, performed as “Flatwater Reunion.” The duo brought Nebraska history alive through their acoustic-electric renditions of Holtz’s story songs.

Sixty-year graduate, Larry Swett, shared some thoughts on former professor of mathematics, the late Dr. Lyle McKercher. Swett noted he was forever grateful for McKercher’s guidance through his college years which helped him to have a successful teaching and business career.

Many of the honored graduates participated in Saturday morning’s parade, which was one of the longest in recent years.

Alumni, family, and friends from the area enjoyed a tailgate held in front of TJ Majors and then cheered on the Bobcat football team which provided the crowd with a 48-31 victory. Prior to the football game, the volleyball team captured a hard-fought five-set win over Culver-Stockton.
