Peru, Nebraska - Peru Theatre Company wraps up the Fall 2022 season with Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom by Jennifer Haley. The play is directed by a senior student, Austin Martin (Falls City). It features a cast of fifteen new and returning Peru Theatre Company members.

Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom (or N3RD as we call it) is a dark comedy that is set in Suburbia, the world of an online horror video game. Relationships between parents and their children break down with increases in teens’ addiction to the game. As the rules of the game, reality, and virtual lines blur, we are compelled to question our own relationships and ask: “Who do I think you are?”

N3RD is Austin Martin’s “last hurrah” before his student teaching begins in the Spring of 2023. Originally from Falls City, Martin is majoring in Education/Special Education and his minor is in Theatre. He is also a U.S. Marine. He recently played “Hal” in Peru Theatre Company’s production of Proof. Now, he provides leadership and experience with this cast.

Returning Peru Theatre Company member, Nick Hower, (Nebraska City), plays the Son type. Trevor says, “working with Peru Theatre Company is about making new friends and making memories.” Freshman, Emily Mattox from Leavenworth, KS, plays the Sister type. Chelsea plans to work on more shows as “she’s having too much fun!” Mattox is also expanding her theatre education by learning stage combat with guest artist and fight director Reed Westerhoff (Seward, NE). She says, “It’s a little scary, but it’s really interesting!” Assistant professor of Theatre and PTC Advisor Laura Lippman, originally from Long Island, NY, said, “It is vital to bring a myriad of professional guest artists to expand Peru State College’s reach beyond the campus community.” She is proud to make these connections.

In addition to an all-student cast, N3RD features student lighting, costume designers, and a student stage manager. Freshman, Katelyn Crawford from Blair, NE, is serving as both the Assistant Director and Stage Manager. She says, “My favorite thing so far is seeing the progress that all of the actors have made since the beginning.” When asked what is more challenging, she says: “Working with a cast of more than four is particularly challenging!” Yet somehow, this intrepid cast and creative team finds a way to make it work. Come see them on stage.
