Peru, Neb. – On Saturday, April 9, the annual Easter Egg hunt was hosted on the Peru State College campus by the Rotaract Club and the Black Student Union. Children in three different age groups: PreK, Kindergarten - second grade, and third - fifth grade all sought their own score of the 3,000 eggs hidden around campus grounds.

There were kids all over the quad anxiously awaiting the start of the egg hunt. The event itself had gotten the attention from the tots eager to get as many eggs as they possibly could. The hunt also had a surprise guest or two as Professor Charles Hicks and Jason Hogue were in attendance with their families. Hicks noted how the beginning of the hunt was like a mad dash, or a flash of lightning as the kids found nearly every egg in the first 20 minutes of the hunt.

It was a wonderful time for the children and their families. As the event concluded, the egg count began. This gave parents the ability to mingle and help the kids count their eggs and the Golden Egg Winners were announced. The tots then returned home satisfied with their hauls and ready for the next Peru State College Egg Hunt come next spring.

The Black Student Union and the Rotaract Club hosted this event. Rotaract members helping with the event included Daniela Lagunas – senior biochemical science and pre-physician assistant major from Hastings; Julia Pichler – senior secondary English major from Fremont; Gustavo Brochetto – senior biochemical science major from San Marcos, Brazil; Camaryn Gydesen – senior biochemical science major from Odell; and Sarah Davis-Kovarik – sophomore history major from Palmyra.

Lagunas serves Rotaract as its president and had this to say about the event, “Rotaract oversaw helping hide the Easter eggs and directing the kids to their designated areas. It was so rewarding to see so many families come together and celebrate as a community for this event.”

Members of the Black Student Union helped fill the 3,000 eggs in preparation for the Easter Egg hunt. The work was done at City Hall, along with members of the City’s improvement group, a few days ahead of the hunt.

Those BSU leadership council members helping with the egg preparation included Jonas Bailey – senior kinesiology major from Kansas City, Mo.; Cameron Davis – junior psychology major from Hoisington, Kan.; David Johnson – senior psychology major from Chandler, AZ ; Micayla Lane – freshman criminal justice major from Bellevue; Aaron Thomas – freshman criminal justice – legal studies major from River Ridge, LA; Justice Walker – general studies major from Omaha; and Marlon Warren – senior management major from Vancleave, MS.
