Peru, Nebraska – The Peru Student Education Association (PSEA) will celebrate the anniversary of Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Thursday, February 27, and Friday, February 28. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Peru State’s annual Dr. Seuss Day, which began in 1995.
The Vice-President of PSEA and the student director of Dr. Seuss Day, Emily Fellin said, “I’m honored to be able to work so closely with the Dr. Suess birthday bash for the past two years. This year is especially special since it will be the 25th anniversary of Peru Student Education Association hosting this event at Peru State College.”
“The club and I are excited to be able to perform these books and to encourage the next generation to fall in love with reading.”
According to the PSEA, nine local schools, head starts and day cares have signed up for this event. Over the four different performances an estimated 736 student and teachers are coming to the showings. To help encourage the love of reading, PSEA plans to hand out a bundle of books to each classroom that participates in the shows.

Dr. Seuss was born Theodore Geisel in 1904. His first book, And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street, published in 1936, was an instant success. His desire to excite children to read led him to write The Cat In The Hat in 1954, followed by 42 other books including Green Eggs and Ham, The Lorax and Horton Hears a Who.
Seuss won countless awards in his lifetime, including Academy Awards, Emmys and a Pulitzer Prize in 1984. His work continues to inspire countless children in the United States and beyond.
