Peru Nebraska- Mason Clobes is one of only four students from the Midwest to have been selected by the International Research Experience for Students, Clobes will have the opportunity this summer to spend eight weeks in Prague, Czech Republic to conduct research.

“The trip to Prague is funded by the National Science Foundation through a partnership between the University of North Dakota and Charles University in Prague. Clobes will be allotted a stipend for his eight weeks in Prague, where he will be working with Dr. Alena Kubatova from the University of North Dakota and Dr. Thomas Krizek from Charles University.

Clobes will be researching analytical methods using capillary electrophoresis to determine a new way of recycling industrial coolants.

He said, “My research will include new promising technology of capillary electrophoresis and other analytical methods to use in quality control and recycling of industrial coolants.”

“I am overwhelmed with excitement for this opportunity. Seeing and working in a university that was built in 1348, is a top university in the world, and had a professor named Albert Einstein is the most captivating part to this whole experience for me.”

Mason Clobes is a Sophomore Biochemistry Major from Gretna, Nebraska, he will graduate from Peru State College in 2022.

The IRES Program provides internships to four undergraduate students and one graduate student on an annual basis.
