Dr. Darolyn Seay, faculty advisor for Peru Student Education Association, said "This year we celebrated the 25th Birthday Bash for Dr. Seuss at Peru State campus. The attendance tripled since 2019, making this year an opportunity for many new visitors from surrounding areas to experience one of the four Dr. Seuss performances on the campus of Peru State College."
"The annual Dr. Seuss Day performances are sponsored by the Peru Student Education Association (PSEA), which is one of the largest chapters under the Student Education Association of Nebraska (SEAN) This group of students did an amazing job this year making the experience not only lively, but interactive. The talent shared by these future teacher candidates really made the performances "top notch" and as the faculty sponsor, I am extremely proud of this group... This event continues to grow each year, and with the help of faculty and some generous donations, we have been able to promote this event even better!""
This was also the last Dr. Seuss Day attended by Dr. Bill Clemente, who retired in 2018. "Dr. Clemente gave so much to this event for many years, and will be missed by so many! If you see Dr. Clemente, please give him the "pat on the back" he deserves for so many years of service toward making this event what it is today!"
According to the PSEA, nine local schools, head starts and day cares attended this event. Over the four different performances an estimated 736 student and teachers come to the showings. PSEA handed out a bundle of books to each classroom that participates in the shows.
Dr. Seuss was born Theodore Geisel in 1904. His first book, And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street, published in 1936, was an instant success. His desire to excite children to read led him to write The Cat In The Hat in 1954, followed by 42 other books including Green Eggs and Ham, The Lorax and Horton Hears a Who.
Seuss won countless awards in his lifetime, including Academy Awards, Emmys and a Pulitzer Prize in 1984. His work continues to inspire countless children in the United States and beyond.
