Peru, Nebraska – The Peru State College Band and Hoyt Street Jazz Ensemble will present a joint concert thus Sunday, March 1. The concert will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the public.

The College band will be performing pieces by Claude T. Smith, Pavel Tschesnokoff, Leroy Anderson, Percy Grainger and Frank Tichelli. The Jazz Band will be performing pieces by Don Menza, Wayne Shorter, Arlen and Mercer and Tower of Power.

The College Band was established in 1889, making it the second oldest existing band in Nebraska. Membership is open to all students and represents a true cross-section of the Peru State student population. The College Band emphasizes the study and performance of traditional and contemporary band literature in a variety of styles, and provides personal musical growth opportunities for its members through participation in performances of the highest level.

The Hoyt Street Jazz Ensemble is a select group open to all Peru State students by audition. Emphasis is placed on developing improvisation skills and an understanding of jazz styles. The ensemble performs music representative of all genres and periods, from the more traditional jazz forms to popular American music. In addition to regular campus performances, the Hoyt Street Jazz Ensemble often tours nationally and regionally.

The Winter Choral concert will be held on March 26.
