Peru, Nebraska – Peru State College hosted nearly 550 southeast Nebraska educators as part of the ESU #4 Engaging Educators Conference. The conference was a one day event that provides educators with professional learning opportunities.
Lori Broady told the Nebraska Public School Advantage, “We hope the teachers leave with something they can use. We have so many sessions because we want to make sure they can go back to the classroom and use something they learned today.�
Broady is a Peru State alum, teaches social studies at Johnson-Brock, is on the ESU #4 Teaching and Learning Team and was the Nebraska History Teacher of the Year in 2016.
“I always looked forward to this, and felt rejuvenated going back to the classroom the day after,â€� she continues with NPSA,”The kids would pick up on it and say ‘Oh, you went to one of those conferences again, didn’t you?’ They knew.”
Another attendee, Dr. Judith Ruskamp, Professor of Education at Peru State, commented on the importance of the experience to the college, “The dimension of affording approximately 70 teacher candidates to participate in the conference for a second year, speaks to the vested interest that ESU #4 and the Peru State School of Education have in the value of providing authentic teacher preparation experiences that will impact education in this region and across the state of Nebraska and elsewhere.�
