Peru, Nebraska - The Peru Theatre Company will present "Dead Man's Cellphone" in six performances from Tuesday, November 12, to Sunday, November 17, in the V.F. Jindra Fine Arts Building Black Box Theatre.
"Dead Man's Cell Phone" is written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Associate Professor of Theatre Arts, Laura Lippman.
General admission is $20, and $10 for seniors and students. Admission is free for Peru State College faculty, staff and students.

Dead Man's Cellphone explores the paradox of modern technology's ability to both unite and isolate people in the digital age. This is the second show in the Company's 2019-2020 season, entitled "Bodies & Souls."
Lippman said, "Each production uniquely explores the ephemeral, the immortal and the space in between."
Ruhl explained to the New Yorker about the play, “Cell phones, iPods, wireless computers will change people in ways we don’t even understand."
“We’re less connected to the present. No one is where they are. There’s absolutely no reason to talk to a stranger anymore—you connect to people you already know. But how well do you know them? Because you never see them—you just talk to them. I find that terrifying.”
"Dead Man's Cell Phone" premiered in 2007 starring Mary-Louis Parker. The play was recognized by the Helen Hayes Awards with the Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play in 2008.
Ruhl won the Steinberg Distinguished Playwright Award, was Tony-nominated for Best Play, is a two-time Pulitzer finalist and was awarded a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship.
