No critical unmet needs for water on campus.

Peru, Nebraska - Peru State College has a responsibility to ensure that students can successfully complete the semester. College administration worked closely with the City of Peru and Nemaha County Emergency Management before making the decision to resume classes on Wednesday, March 20.

Unfortunately, some recent calls to give or donate, even those reaching media stories, have asserted that there is a crisis on the Peru State College campus. Students are not “left without water” and they are not in urgent need on campus. Many generous donations of bottled water have come into the community through the weekend and on Monday. Tap water is also available for bathing, laundry and all domestic needs.

The City of Peru has issued a boil order after additional water supplies have been added to the Peru water tower. A boil order is issued anytime new water is added to a public water system.

The City has asked that the public use municipal water to wash clothes, take showers, etc. but drink bottled water. Bottled water is available in a number of locations on campus and at City Hall in Peru. The College will be respectful of the time and cost necessary to deliver water to town and will be working with the City to conserve water.

Any bottled water donated to the community will be needed and will be consumed. However, there is not a critical unmet need on campus at this time.
