Peru, Nebraska – Dr. Matt Hill was named Peru State College’s 2019 Teaching Excellence Award winner. Hill was honored during the College’s commencement on May 4.

Dan Hanson, president of Peru State College, presented the award to Hill stating, “He has a passion for students and music. Hill holds students to a higher standard of excellence and assists them in reaching the goals he sets for the class.”

Hanson quoted a current student who wrote, “There are very few people who have a comparable passion for music and humans. When the two come together – like they do in his classes – it creates magic that I will never forget.”

Hill told the graduates, “I am sure the alumni office would love to hear from you as often as you want to reach out. More importantly, we expect to hear about you. We expect to hear from a mutual acquaintance that you held the door for them at the grocery store. We expect to hear from a nonprofit that a Peru State alum volunteered their time for a cause that is meaningful.

“You never know never which held door or volunteered hour might change your life’s trajectory for the better. Be mindful that every word said or left unsaid and every action take or left undone leaves an impression.”

Hill concluded, “It is time for you to share your knowledge, experience and love with the world.”
