Peru, Nebraska- Outstanding alumni were recognized in for their outstanding professional achievements, commitment to community and support of Peru State College. Lori Broady, classes of 1990 and 2003, was recognized as the School of Education’s 2019 recipient of the Thousand Oaks Alumni Excellence Award.
Dr. Dan Hanson, president of Peru State College, said, “For the School of Education, we honor Lori Broady’s contributions to her community and her many achievements as a history teacher and now as a member of the ESU4 Teaching and Learning Team.”
Lori Broady joined ESU4 Teaching and Learning Team in 2018. Broady has been involved in education for over 25 years in a variety of capacities including over 23 years as a Social Studies instructor at Johnson-Brock. Broady earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees at Peru State College.
During her time at Johnson-Brock, Broady was recognized regionally and nationally. Her awards include the 2016 Nebraska State History Teacher of the Year, 2015 finalist for the National History Day Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year Award and 2015 recipient of the National History Day Patricia Behring Affiliate Award. In 2013 she received the James C. Olson Memorial Award by the Nebraska State Historical Society for epitomizing the best Nebraska educators have to offer in engaging, inspiring, and guiding their students. In 2012, Broady worked on the Nebraska State Board of Education Social Science Committee that developed the state’s first social science standards approved in 2012. Broady currently serves on the standards revision committee convened to revise the original standards in 2019.
As a member of the ESU4 Teaching & Learning Team, Lori believes that education in the twenty-first century offers many challenges and opportunities. As the Teaching & Learning specialist, she supports teachers as they inspire, assess and facilitate opportunities for all learners to reach their full potential. Her commitment to Peru and her community include being active in the Johnson United Methodist Church, working with People First a self-advocacy group for disabled individuals, being appointed to the Nebraska Advisory Committee on Developmental Disabilities, serving on the Board of the Nemaha County Museum and volunteering on the Charter Day committee for the Peru State Sesquicentennial.
Paul Fell (School of Arts and Sciences), Jeff Greenwald (School of Professional Studies) and Marilyn Schlake (School of Graduate Studies) were also recipients of the Thousand Oaks Alumni Excellence Award.
