Peru, Nebraska – Kayla Myers of Sidney, Iowa, was awarded the Scroll of Service by the Peru State College Student Senate. The Scroll of Service is the highest non-academic award presented to a student at Peru State College.

Myers said, “I am very honored to have been even nominated for The Scroll of Service Award, but to receive the award is very humbling. Many great student leaders were also nominated for the award, and my hope is that the award will continue in the recognition of student leaders who dedicate so much time and energy into making Peru State a great campus and community.”

The Scroll of Service Award is designed to honor a full-time Peru State student for dedication and service to the student body and College. Nominations for the award can be made by any Peru State student, member of the faculty or staff.

Trey Nelson (Lincoln, Neb.), former president of the Student Senate, adds, “Kayla’s involvement and impact can be seen and felt throughout campus. Kayla can be seen in the student involvement office at all hours of the day. Nearly every  student in a student organization knows Kayla by name due to her relentless work across the multitude of organizations she is a part of. Kayla is driven by the students at Peru State College and works endlessly to serve the community.”

Myers is a senior majoring in math and secondary math education and minoring in business administration and accounting. Myers is also pursuing an endorsement in coaching and is part of the honors program at Peru State College.

Myers is involved on campus in Student Senate, Campus Activities Board, Peru Student Education Association, Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Alpha Theta. She also serves as a peer tutor in mathematics.

Myers was recently appointed as student trustee to the Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees by Governor Pete Ricketts. Myers will serve as a student trustee through the spring of 2020.

Myers was honored with the Scroll of Service Award on April 18th at the Student Senate Banquet.
