Peru, Nebraska - Dr. Judy Grotrian was presented the Barb Lewellen Award by the Student Senate. The Barb Lewellen Award honors an outstanding members of the Peru State College faculty or staff for distinguished work to better the lives of students and student life on campus.

Grotrian said, "It is truly an honor to be the recipient of the Barb Lewellen Award for the 2018-2919 academic year. The award signifies many exemplary qualities, and it is gratifying that the students recognized me as personifying someone who has a strong passion for my career, who illustrates a positive attitude with a solid work ethic, and who willingly takes time to listen to them and works hard to assist them to succeed."


Noah Harvey, president of the Student Senate, "Although all of our faculty, staff, and administration are worthy of winning this word. I personally cannot think of anyone better than Dr. G. She has been my go to since I transferred to Peru. She has helped me on setting up my graduation plan and there are numerous times that I just pop by to say hi. She is one of the most caring people I know she truly has the best interest of her students in mind not only for their four years in college but for many years after that."

Grotrian joined the Peru State College faculty in 1998 and is a Professor of Business. She teaches Principles of Financial Accounting, Principles of Managerial Accounting, Employee Training and Development, and Organizational Communication.

Grotrian has  served as the Contest Director for the Peru State College high school business contest and as the Interim Director for the Academic Resource Center. She was also the faculty representative for college athletics, academic adviser for the women’s basketball team and the women’s golf team.

Following 21 years of teaching and service, Grotrian has announced her retirement from Peru State. Her official retirement date is in August.

She was honored on April 18 at the Student Senate Banquet.
