Crete, Nebraska – Dr. Matt Hill was the inaugural clinician for the first ever Nebraska Choral Directors Association (NCDA) concert ensemble held at Doane University. The NCDA plans to host an All-State Concert Choir each year for the most gifted high school singers from across the state.

Singers auditioned to participate in this choir and this year’s choir featured 40 singers from 18 different Nebraska high schools. Students rehearsed with Hill for two days leading up to a concert on July 9. The concert featured a repertoire from Brahms, Mozart, and a few living composers, including Hans Heruth and Elaine Hagenberg.

“What an incredible joy this experience was for me,” Hill wrote. “I am without words to adequately convey my gratitude to the music educators and students who made this week’s All-State Concert Choir possible!”

Hill was also named the Nebraska Choral Director Association’s Choral Director of the Year for 2018. He regularly serves as a guest clinician for district festivals and honor choirs, and is called upon to adjudicate show choir and classical solo and ensemble competitions around the country each season. In addition to his work as a conductor, Hill has served in music ministry steadily since 2003 as pianist and worship leader and has performed as a chorister and featured soloist with numerous local and regional ensembles.

Hill is an Assistant Professor of Music and the Director of Choral Activities at Peru State College. He also is the founder and current Artistic and Executive Director of Sing Omaha, Inc. This organization offers ten choirs and two studio locations for private voice, piano and guitar lessons. Hill conducts the organization’s two adult choirs, and maintains an active roster of voice students at the studios.

Dr. Hill recently completed his Doctorate of Choral Conducting at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

According to their website, “The Choral Directors Association is a non-profit professional organization whose membership is composed of choral musicians from schools, colleges, universities, churches, community and professional groups. As a chapter of the national organization NCDA members are among 18,000 directors representing more than one million singers across the United States.”

“NCDA events and publications provide Nebraska educators with opportunities in the choral field that surpass standard professional development.”
