The Nebraska State College System is developing an initiative to address rural workforce needs for high-need occupations throughout the state. In preliminary conversations with the Governor, he expressed interest in gathering more information. As part of this information gathering process, Presidents from the College are visiting with rural business and industry leaders around the state.id="attachment_11114" align="" width="300" Logo for the NebraskaFWD initiative. The Proposed Program:
- The Nebraska State College System is requesting state finding in support of a strategic
initiative titled “Nebraska FWD (Future Workforce Development).” The initiative would
assist in:
- Developing qualified rural workforce for high-need occupations throughout the state.
- Expanding student access to higher education.
- Increasing higher education affordability and decreasing debt associated with college attendance.
- The requested funding would be used to target scholarships for students in programs
that address identified rural workforce needs:
- Areas of need identified by the Nebraska Department of Labor.
- Areas of need identified through roundtable discussions with business and industry leaders.
- Community roundtables will be held across Nebraska during the fall of 2018 to:
- Share the NSCS initiative with the larger community.
- Explore potential areas of rural workforce need with community leaders, with the goal of graduating more students in strategically selected programs aligned to workforce needs.
- Identify the level of support for the initiative and possible partnership, opportunities for students through internships, experiential learning, or other job-focused engagement.
Peru State College will be holding similar forums in several nearby communities.
