Peru, Nebraska - Eight events are scheduled on the Peru State campus to raise awareness of sexual assault and the dangers of alcohol.  April is both Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Alcohol Awareness Month.

The National Sexual Survivors Network writes, "The movement to end sexual violence in the United States, and around the world, relies on people who’ve made a choice to do something."

"Sexual violence often seems inevitable, but the choice to do something and get involved has made incredible changes in national and global conversations about sexual violence. In recent decades, these changing conversations have expanded support for survivors and led to substantial innovation in the work of preventing sexual violence."

The National Council of Alcohol and Drug Dependence writes, "Founded and sponsored by NCADD, Alcohol Awareness Month was established in 1987 to help reduce the stigma so often associated with alcoholism by encouraging communities to reach out to the American public each April with information about alcohol, alcoholism and recovery."

"Alcoholism is a chronic, progressive disease, genetically predisposed and fatal if untreated. However people can and do recover. In fact, it is estimated that as many as 20 million individuals and family members are living lives in recovery!"
