Peru, Nebraska – The Peru Theatre Company is presenting their 2018 iteration of “The Disco Citizens.” The Disco Citizens is a collection of thirty short plays written by Peru State students to be performed in the Jindra Fine Arts Black Box Theatre.
The ticket price is $10 for general audiences and $5 for students and seniors. The performance is also free to PSC students and faculty. The show is rated M for intense subject matter and language.
Dual daily performances are being held on Tuesday April 17th and Wednesday April 18th at 4:30 & 9:30 PM with 3:00 & 7:30 PM showings on Saturday, April 21.
Titled “This Can’t Be Happening,” this year’s performance shines a light on the anxieties of today, ranging from social pressures to addiction, cynicism, sexuality and much more. If the performance meets its goal of going under an hour, the performers get free pizza, if it goes over an hour, the audience gets free pizza.
Last Year’s iteration of The Disco Citizens was titled “What Scares You?”
Under the direction of Professor Laura Lippman, the collection is written and performed by PSC students: Austin Martin (Falls City NE), Kaity Baker (Weeping Water NE), Ariason James (Beatrice NE) Zack Steele (Auburn NE), Charlie McKay (Portland OR) and Amelia Roth (Crete NE) with additional writings by Theresa Woods (Bellevue NE), Quentin Victor (Auburn NE), Alexa and Alyssa Cline (Saint Joseph, MO).
Other students involved in the production are Stage Manager Joshua Girard (Peru, NE), Light booth operator Sophie Marks (Salisbury MD) Box Office Manager Joshua Osborne (Auburn, NE) and MC’s Tristan Petz (Beemer NE) & Dillon Williamson.
