Peru Nebraska –Campus Compact, a Boston-based non-profit organization working to advance the public purposes of higher education, has announced the 268 students who will make up the organization’s 2018 cohort of Newman Civic Fellows, including Peru State College’s own Noah Temme.
Dr. Dan Hanson, president of Peru State, writes in Noah’s nomination, “By being involved, Noah realized he could make a difference. At Peru State College he is a member of several organizations such as the history honor society Phi Alpha Theta and the Red Cross Club.
“These organizations help with trash pickups, conduct Red Cross blood drives, and distribute food through the Backpack Program, a program designed to distribute food to under served public school students.”
Hailing from Fairmont Nebraska, Noah Temme is a junior majoring in social studies education at Peru State College. He is also involved in the Children’s Health, Activity and Nutrition Community Engagement (CHANCE) Initiative and serves on the ServeNebraska Leadership Council.
Temme writes, “As a community member, I have always wanted to improve what is around me. I am proud to come from my small hometown, and all I want to do is give my time to help improve it.”
“As a fellow, I will have access to resources and training so that I can help address and solve problems within my community. I am excited to be connected with students across the United States.”
Hanson concludes, “Noah exhibits exceptional integrity in all he does. His commitment to service and his impeccable character will be a model of service for others throughout his life.”

The Newman Civic Fellowship, named for Campus Compact co-founder Frank Newman, is a one-year experience emphasizing personal, professional, and civic growth. Through the fellowship, Campus Compact provides a variety of learning and networking opportunities, including a national conference of Newman Civic Fellows in partnership with the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. The fellowship also provides fellows with access to apply for exclusive scholarship and post-graduate opportunities.
