Peru, Nebraska – Peru State College has officially opened online applications for the Rural Health Opportunities Program (RHOP) in conjunction with the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). Applications will be accepted through November 15th, giving students plenty of time to apply.

Candidates must come from a rural background and plan to enter a health related profession. RHOP’s intended purpose is recruiting and educating students from rural communities. Students will be strongly encouraged and expected to practice in the rural areas of Nebraska.

Peru State now has early admissions programs with four UNMC colleges, including three seats in the pharmacy program, four seats in the nursing program, three seats in the physician assistant program, three in medical laboratory science, two in physical therapy and two in radiography. A separate program exists for juniors with the College of Public Health, the Public Health Early Admissions Student Track (PHEAST).

If selected as a participant in the program each student will:

  • Receive a full tuition waiver while enrolled at Peru State, provided the student maintains good standing within the RHOP program standards.

  • Be given acceptance to the UNMC after their completion of Peru State pre-professional curriculum.

  • Follow a special curriculum at Peru State that will prepare the student for studies at UNMC.

  • Have recognition of their desire to become a health care professional.

Each provisionally admitted student will also be appointed a faculty mentor from Peru State and a faculty mentor from their respective UNMC allied health program of study. Mentors will advise the students on academic and career development
