Peru, Nebraska – Kinesiology majors and health and physical education majors were able to escape the typical classroom, in favor of taking a trip to Duck Creek Recreational Lake. The experience was arranged in partnership with WoggWorks Kayaking and led by Dr. Frank Lynott, professor of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
Chris and Walt Vosicka, the owners of the kayaking service, have family ties to Peru State College, and were happy to help bring students to southeast Nebraska’s newest recreational site. There they taught basic kayak skills, as well as the benefits of kayaking.
Lynott was looking to expose students to alternative forms of recreation and exercise opportunities, saying, “Not everyone is motivated by team competition or team sports.”
“So it’s important that future physical educators are exposed to alternative exercise opportunities, in the hope that they may be able to provide others with something that will motivate healthy recreation and exercise.”
Both the Vosikas and Lynott have reported the event was a great success and would like to work more with each other, as well as the whole of Peru State College, in the near future.
