Peru, Nebraska – Peru State College hosted four activities throughout the day on Monday as part of the observed Veterans Day. Veterans from campus and surrounding communities attended and were recognized.
Starting at 7:00 a.m., students and staff gathered to line the entrance to campus with 350 American flags which were placed along Park Avenue leading into the community of Peru and onto the Peru State campus.
From 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., veterans on campus were able to receive free coffee and pastries from the Bobcat Den courtesy of Creative Dining. The Bobcat Den is located in the Library and now serves Starbucks coffee.
A Veterans Day Program was also held at 10 a.m. The program featured students readings, live patriotic music and a keynote by former member of the Kansas National Guard and Peru State Business Instructor, Matt Gleason.
Following the reception, Phi Epsilon Kappa hosted a Veterans Day workout. The workout was held in the Al Wheeler Activities Center (AWAC) Fitness Center. The workout was led by Dr. Kyle Ryan, associate professor of education. Ryan is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association; a certified Sports Performance Coach with USA Weightlifting; and a Certified Level-1 CrossFit Coach.
