Peru, Nebraska- Peru State College has paired with Blue Rivers Transportation to help students travel between cities in Southeast Nebraska. Beginning Thursday, September 6, Blue Rivers will provide twice weekly transportation to Auburn and Nebraska City for students.

Student Senate will oversee and fund the Blue Rivers Transportation on campus. To schedule a ride with Blue Rivers, students will log onto the Bobcat Life App and fill out the Travel MachForm.

Only 12 passengers can be taken each trip, so students are advised to fill out the form well in advance to secure a spot. Students can set up separate times with Blue Rivers to transport to Lincoln or Omaha.

“I think we are trying to accomplish two things," Dean of Student Life, Dr. Matt Thielen, said, "One, give students who may not have a vehicle on-campus the opportunity to get out to cover basic needs, such as grocery shopping."

Thielen continues, "The second, is to get students into the communities of Auburn and Nebraska City to engage and connect.”

Created in 1974, Blue Rivers Transportation is available in Southeast Nebraska from Monday through Friday. Scheduled round trips between Auburn, Nebraska City, Lincoln, Omaha and other cities are available upon reservation. Within the last two years, Blue Rivers has provided over 50,000 trips throughout their five-county transportation service area in Southeast Nebraska.

According to their website, Blue Rivers’ mission “is to develop or support a system of coordinated and comprehensive services for older individuals that promotes a safe, healthy, and independent lifestyle.”
