Peru, Nebraska– Peru State’s Noah Temme has been named to ServeNebraska’s Leadership Council.  He was chosen for his work with Peru State’s CHANCE Initiative and AmeriCorps.
 

ServeNebraska is the Nebraska Volunteer Service Commission. Their mission is “mobilizing Nebraskans to strengthen their communities through volunteering, collaboration, and national service programs.”

A letter to Temme from the Nebraska Volunteer Service Commission reads, “Congratulations you have been selected to participate in the 2017-2018 Leadership Council.”

Temme is also a part of the Children’s Health, Activity and Nutrition Community Engagement (CHANCE) Initiative. The CHANCE Initiative is run through AmeriCorps and ServeNebraska. Peru State’s CHANCE Initiative student members help Nebraska City students with physical activity through after school programs and events.

According to ServeNebraska.org, “The Peru State AmeriCorps CHANCE Initiative provides an opportunity for Nebraska City elementary and middle school-aged children to attain the recommended number of minutes of physical activity per day.”

“In past years the CHANCE Initiative has seen an increase of between 3000 and 5000 steps per day in participants. The overarching goal of this endeavor is to curb the obesity epidemic in rural southeast Nebraska.”

Temme said of the CHANCE Initiative, “I’m an education major, so it helps me prepare for my career. It really helps me connect with kids, be active and learn more about working with kids.”

Temme is a junior majoring in Secondary Education with a focus on the social sciences. He is from from Fairmont, Nebraska and is the son of Dawn and Michael Temme.
