Peru, Nebraska - A crowd of Peru State students, faculty and staff gathered Tuesday morning to sign the final beam planned for the Performing Arts Center renovation and construction project. Silver and black pens graced the beam with signatures, messages and memorials.

Jason Hogue, director of marketing and communication at Peru State, wrote students
on Monday, "It’s time to practice your John Hancock! We will be signing the beam."
"What beam? It’s the last beam installed of the major structural pieces of the theatre
construction."
"Our construction partners, inspired by Campus Services, will move this beam to the
grass of the quad (between Hoyt and the Administration Building)," Hogue continues,
"Then our community will memorialize this tremendous step in the construction process
by signing it and leaving our mark for future Peru State students, faculty and staff
to uncover."
Campus Services Director, Jill McCormick, adds, "The Topping-Out Ceremony is an age-old
tradition of placing a beam at what will be the structure’s highest level. While there
is much to be done, this is a wonderful opportunity for the campus community to celebrate
this construction milestone."
Dan Hanson signed, "Shaping the future since 1867!"
The beam will be installed over the holiday break. All construction and renovation are expected to be complete in the the summer of 2018.
