Peru, Nebraska - Despite a heavy downpour Friday morning, Peru State students flocked to Peru's City
Hall for hard work and community service. Over muffins, cookies and doughnuts donated
by community members, President Dan Hanson and City Manager Cindy Moran explained
the city-wide clean-up process to the gathered students.
The rain continued to pour as students walked or drove to pick up trash and debris
around town. Some students picked up litter on the side of the roads while others
took away appliances, building materials and other junk to dumpsters provided near
Peru State College and the City's shop.
The City of Peru Facebook page writes, "A huge THANK YOU shout-out to Peru State College
and their student athletes, cheerleaders, etc. for the hard work they put forth during
the city-wide clean-up. Even in the rain, these wonderful volunteers came out and
picked up trash and hauled 75 truck loads of junk! Again, thank you for this partnership
in an effort to make Peru a beautiful place to call home!"
Hanson adds, "This is a great partnership the City and College have made to beautify
our community. I am always proud that our students give back, but I recognize that
it was more difficult in today's cold rain to show up and work hard. Thank you to
everyone involved."
More than 90 Peru State students and staff participated in the clean-up efforts.
Gunnar Orcutt (Omaha, Nebraska).
Ki’Jana Owens (North Platte, NE) and Kyle Francois (Nebraska City).
Holly Kurz (Elkhorn, NE), Chelsea Reznicek (Omaha), Morgan Ritchie (Lincoln) Ally Hazen (Maxwell, NE) and Nicole Reznicek (Omaha).
