Peru, Nebraska- Dr. Paul Hinrichs was named the new Dean of the Peru State College School of Arts
and Sciences. Hinrichs was previously a professor of mathematics and has served Peru
State since 1990.
Hinrichs said, “Peru State has an incredibly dedicated, creative and hard working
faculty and staff. I look forward to working with them in this new role.”
Dr. Tim Borchers, vice president of academic affairs, writes, “Dr. Hinrichs has a
long reputation for being an excellent teacher and has prepared many current math
educators. I’m very confident in his ability to provide leadership for the School
of Arts and Sciences.”

In the fall of 2016, Hinrichs received the Milton M. Beckmann Lifetime Achievement
Award. The award was presented by the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics
(NATM) in special recognition for a career of outstanding contributions of mathematics
education in the State of Nebraska.
The NATM website provides “The NATM board established the life-time achievement award
in 1989. Its purpose is to honor outstanding mathematics educators who have spent
a lifetime working on the improvement of mathematics education in the state of Nebraska.”
Hinrichs earned his bachelor of science in mathematics education from Concordia University
in Seward and a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Nebraska
– Lincoln. He also earned his Ph.D from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln where
his dissertation was on “Generalized Variance Functions in Hierarchical Bayes Models.”
Hinrichs lives in Auburn, Nebraska with his wife, Suzanne, where they raised three
children.
