On February 27, 2017 during the evening class, Criminal Procedures and the Courts
– taught by Mr. Brent Lottman, Dr. Christy Hutchison coordinated a law school panel
featuring Peru State alumnus and second-year law student, Mr. Gregg Moran. Also attending
was a representative from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Law School who spoke
about the law-school admission process.
Dr. Hutchison holds these panels each year to give undergraduate students an opportunity
to explore the law as a profession and to be introduced to procedures of law-school
application.
Mr. Gregg Moran participated in the panel. Mr. Moran was able to share with interested
students what he has experienced as a student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
School of Law. In an email to Dr. Hutchison and Dean of the School of Professional
Studies, Dr. Greg Galardi, Mr. Moran offered: “How long can police follow a suspect
with a drone before it becomes a violation of the suspect's rights? An hour? Two
hours? Ten hours? One week? Twenty years? In Peru State's business law course,
we dealt with that exact issue, which was my first opportunity to see how much creativity
the practice of law calls for. Now that I am in law school, I'm able to use quite
a bit of the education I received at Peru State College in the business department—examining
problems regarding corporations and other businesses, as well as the laws and regulations
that apply to them.”
