Dr. Nevitt spoke for an hour on a topic, “Alcoholism/Addiction: It Isn’t What You Might Think…,” related to Alcohol Awareness month. The lecture integrated Nevitt’s experiences in recovery with materials presented in SOWK 410 Addiction that he instructs every spring semester at Peru State College. Among the topics discussed were: What is Alcoholism? What is meant by a “High Functioning Alcoholic,” What is meant by “Recovery.”  Additional remarks about how common heavy drinking and binge drinking were rounded out a question and answer session. The presentation was well-attended with both college counselors and approximately twenty-five students present.
