Peru, Nebraska- Peru State’s Associate Athletic Director and Sports Information Director, Ted L.
Harshbarger, has been elected to the Phi Beta Lambda National Awards Program (NAP)
committee. He will serve a three-year term on the committee.
Harshbarger has been a member of FBLA-PBL since he studied at Peru State in the 1970s.
He has assumed many leadership roles within PBL, including roles in Colorado and as
the Nebraska PBL State Advisor for 21 years. Harshbarger had previously served on
the Awards Program Committee before serving for four years on the National Board of
Directors, including one year as Chairman of the Board.
“Having been off the National Board of Directors for a year, I felt something was
missing in what I was doing for the national association,” Harshbarger said.
“I was very pleased to learn from Kelly Scholl, the Education Director at FBLA-PBL,
that I was selected to return to NAP for another three years.”
Scholl writes, "Ted Harshbarger has a long history of serving Phi Beta Lambda at the
national level, and we are pleased to have him join the National Awards Program Committee.”
“His dedication to PBL will serve our members well as he works with the NAP Committee
in making decisions with regard to the future of our competitive events program."

Previously, Harshbarger had served on the NAP committee for nine years, making him
the longest-serving committee member. His long experience was immediately beneficial
as he again acted as a member during the National Conference in Anaheim due to one
current NAP member becoming ill.
On the NAP committee, Harshbarger works behind the scenes with the national conferences'
competitive events. Committee members also help prepare and coordinate the 55 qualifying
events with other state advisers. The committee will meet in the fall to review the
upcoming program of events and to evaluate old and new events to ensure collegiate
members are engaging in the best programs for their needs.
According to the NAP’s national website of events program, “The PBL Competitive Events
program is the pinnacle of the membership year. Students compete in over 55 competitions
that cover finance, marketing, technology, and much more. Competitions begin at the
state level and culminate at the PBL National Leadership Conference (NLC) where the
nation’s top students are recognized.”
Some NAP committee members may also be asked to attend or run workshops at the National
Fall Leadership Conferences (NFLCs). Harshbarger has experience here, too.
“I know it’s a lot of work, but I also know the importance of the National Awards
Program and how it helps to make the National Leadership Conferences successful. Again,
just another way for me to give back to an association that I have been a part of
since 1974,” Harshbarger said.
