Peru, Nebraska- Peru State College will hold its annual commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday,
May 6 in the Al Wheeler Activity Center. Approximately 476 students will earn diplomas
this spring in graduate and undergraduate studies.
Governor Pete Ricketts will give the commencement address to mark the College's 150th
anniversary. Ricketts is expected to speak on the importance of education and Peru
State's role in Nebraska's history.
English professor Kristi Nies has been named the institution’s 2017 Teaching Excellence
Award winner. She will be honored at the ceremony and give a short address.
Additionally, the Peru State Concert Chorale will perform "Sons and Daughters of Peru."
This will be the first public performance of the piece written for the College's 150th
anniversary. The music and lyrics of "Sons and Daughters of Peru" was written by
Associate Professor of Music Matt Hill.
Attendees are also invited to a catered reception on the Campus Quad immediately following
graduation. The Hoyt Street Jazz Ensemble will provide entertainment. In the event
of rain, the reception will be held in the Student Center.
Shuttle service from campus parking lots will be available. Live streaming of the

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Campus Visitor and Interpretive Center will be held
at 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
The Campus Visitor and Interpretive Center project is a product of Phi Alpha Theta
and the College's sesquicentennial planning. The Center features displays related
to the College's 150-year history and will host various events including campus visits
by potential students.
