Peru, Nebraska – Peru State Choirs will present the concert, Heritage, to celebrate 150 years of Nebraska statehood and Peru State’s founding. The Women’s Choir and Concert Chorale groups will perform.

The concert will be held Thursday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m. in room 215 of the V.F. Jindra Fine Arts Building.  Admission is free and open to the public.

The Women’s Choir is a treble concert choir made up of passionate women who love to explore treble music’s close harmonies and vibrant resonance. The Concert Chorale is a mixed-gender choir that specializes in 20th and 21st Century choral repertoire from the United States and around the world.

Jackson Berkey will be the featured guest composer at the October 26 performance. He visited campus on Monday, October 23 to prepare for the concert.

“Best-known nationally as a pianist and recording artist, Jackson Berkey celebrates years as featured keyboardist with Mannheim Steamroller,” Berkey.com supplies.

Having earned a masters at Julliard School of Music, Berkey’s “published catalog offers over 400 titles encompassing choral, solo vocal and instrumental, chamber ensemble, band and orchestral works, as well as concerti and works for chorus and orchestra.”

Berkey’s awards and honors include “the Nebraska Individual Artist Fellowship for Performing Arts Distinguished Achievement in Composition Award, First Prize in the New Music for Young Ensembles Composition Contest in New York City, First Prize at the Alienor Harpsichord Competition in Hilton Head (NC), annual ASCAP Awards and award-winning video scores,” according to Berkey.com, “in 2009, he was named to the International Roster of Steinway Artists.”
