Peru, Nebraska- For the second year in a row, Dr. Jacob Bartlett, assistant professor of music at
Peru State College, is a quarter-finalist for the Music Educator GRAMMY Award presented
by GRAMMY in the Schools, The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation. Bartlett
is one of two quarter-finalists from Nebraska. The Music Educator Award is open to
current U.S. music teachers. Students, parents, friends, colleagues, community members,
school deans and administrators can nominate a teacher. Once a nomination has been
made, the teacher can fill out an application to the Foundation.

According to the GRAMMY Foundation, “a total of 197 music teachers from 187 cities
across 45 states have been announced as quarter-finalists for the Music Educator Award.
More than 2,300 initial nominations were submitted from all 50 states.”
In an interview with CBS This Morning, Bartlett said, “You never know when you’ve
impacted a student in such a way that they put in an effort to make a nomination.”
“Music teaches more than notes and rhythms. Music helps us emote. It really helps
us to express our feelings in ways we may not be able to do without,” Bartlett said.
Since this is Bartlett’s second year as a quarter-finalist, he will receive the Legacy
Award.
The 197 quarter-finalists will drop down to ten finalists and the Music Educator Award
recipient will attend the 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards in New York as well as other GRAMMY
Week events. The semi-finalists will be announced in September 2017.

and advancement of the contribution of recorded music to American culture—from the
artistic and technical legends of the past to the still unimagined musical breakthroughs
