Peru State College and the PSC Mathematics Club will host the 24th annual Greater Southeast Nebraska Mathematics Challenge on Friday, March 17, 2017.

The competition was founded in 1993 as area high school teachers sought to foster and develop mathematics education in southeast Nebraska. This year, Dr. Paul Hinrichs and Dr. Laura McCauley will act as faculty advisors for the competition.

High school students from southeast Nebraska schools will be divided into three divisions (large to small) based on the Nebraska School Activities Association enrollment figures for the school. Each school will be allowed to enter a team of three students in each of the four subject areas: Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-calculus and Calculus.

The competition consists of three different sessions. The first session is a forty-question multiple choice individual exam in the subject for which the student registered. The second test is a team exam where the students answer open-ended mathematics questions. The third session is a quiz bowl against other students in one of the specific subject areas.

The top three individual scores on the written tests and the top team score for each division and subject will be given awards. Certificates will be presented to the quiz bowl finalist teams.
