Peru, Nebraska - Peru State College has announced a new scholarship for veterans and active duty service members. Named the Military Service Scholarship, it will be taking applications for the fall of 2017.

An anonymous donor - who received an undergraduate education at Peru State College before joining the Marines - created the fund. This new scholarship will complement and augment educational benefits provided through the GI Bill.

Heather Rinne, Peru State’s assistant registrar, said, “While educational benefits for veterans and active duty service personnel are generous and extensive, sometimes those benefits do not go far enough or lack flexibility in covering the variety of expenses faced by college students.”

“This scholarship will provide another resource to help our active duty and veteran students achieve their dream to earn a college education.”

Peru State President Dan Hanson said, “I encourage veterans and members of the military and their families to experience first-hand the hallmarks of a Peru State education – personalized attention, relevant coursework and flexible programming.”

Serving veterans and active-duty military since its inception in 1867, Peru State College has also been recognized by Victory Media as a Military Friendly School and as a Top 100 Military Spouse Friendly School. This spring, the Nebraska ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve) has recognized Peru State with the Patriot Award and the Above and Beyond Award.

Veterans or active duty service personnel interested in exploring the many opportunities for undergraduate and graduate education at Peru State College are encouraged to visit peru.edu or call (800) 742-4412 to speak to an admissions representative.
