Peru, Nebraska- In 2015, Whitni Redman and Jay Bryant completed a study of “Gastrointestinal Helminths
of Coyotes (Canis Latrans) from Southeast Nebraska and Shenandoah Area of Iowa” under
the supervision of Dr. Gul Ahmad, assistant professor of biology at Peru State College.
Their work is now published in “Veterinary World.”
Ahmad writes, “The work was entirely done at Peru State by Whitni and Jay under my
supervision. Our publisher, Veterinary World is a peer reviewed, high profile international
journal.”
Whitni Redman was a biochemical sciences major from Holyoke, Colorado. She graduated
in May 2016 and is now a PhD candidate in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences
at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Jay Bryant was a biochemical sciences major from Plattsmouth, NE. He also graduated
in May and now works as a researcher for Midwest Laboratories in Omaha.
A helminth is a parasitic worm. For this study, helminthes were collected and studies
from the stomach or intestines of coyotes in the region.
“Veterinary World” publishes high quality papers focusing on veterinary and animal

Redman and Bryant previously presented their work with Ahmad to the Southwestern Association
of Parasitologists.
