Peru, Nebraska- Before Valentine’s Day, Peru State College students involved in the PILOT program made valentines to send to veterans at the Veteran Administration’s Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System.

Avery Grebert of Shenandoah, Iowa said “We like doing these types of projects because it is a way to show appreciation for our veterans.”

Machaela Cowan of Omaha adds, “It’s always nice to see the school community work together on projects.  We really enjoy doing activities for our veterans.”

Peggy Groff, staff advisor for PILOT, said, “Students welcomed the opportunity as a way to honor and thank our veterans for their service to our country.”

PILOT also organized an event where students made Thanksgiving cards that were sent to the Veteran’s Hospital in Omaha.  The intent was to thank veterans (patients) for their service and wish them a Happy Thanksgiving.

PILOT stands for Peru Individual Leaders of Today. The purpose of PILOT is to provide an opportunity for the students at Peru State College to volunteer for service learning projects that will benefit others.

This is the first in a series of releases regarding Peru State College service in the month of February.
