Peru, Nebraska- The Nebraska State Education Association (NSEA) – Retired has announced the three
recipients of the NSEA-Retired Student Education Association of Nebraska (SEAN) Scholarship.
The scholarships are to be used for the recipient’s student-teaching semester.
Mariah Bigelow (Milligan, NE) and Caitlin Cassell (Bellevue, NE) were the winners
from Peru State College. The winners were selected in March and recognized at the
SEAN Spring Delegate Assembly. Haley Montgomery (Cozad, NE) from the University of
Nebraska – Omaha also received a scholarship.
Under the rules for the scholarships, scholarship recipients must be juniors or seniors
who have been SEAN members for at least two years, including the current year. Scholarships
are awarded based on both financial need and essay question answers. Application also
requires three letters of recommendation: one from a faculty or staff member of the
college or university the student applicant is attending; one from a local SEAN chapter
officer; and one recommendation from the school’s SEAN Advisor.
The NSEA-Retired is a statewide association of educators that is committed to protecting
current pension and Social Security benefits; being a strong advocate on retirement
issues; and to the advancement of quality public education.
