On October 11 and October 18, 2016, five Peru State students attended training at
the Law Enforcement Center in Cass County, Nebraska. Faculty member, Dr. Amber Mahan,
accompanied the students to the Law Enforcement Center; previously Dr. Mahan has worked
professionally as an evidence technician for the Cass County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
During this training, students studied along with deputies and officers of all rank
about crime-scene documentation and techniques to include both residences and vehicles.
The training included photography, documentation, latent prints, tire tread/footwear
patterns, and evidence collection/preservation. The students were viewed as practitioners,
and they showed no reservation when it came to the hands-on practical portion of the
training. Additionally, the students were able to communicate with those currently
working in the field - offering insight to a real world scenario. These students
represented Peru State College very well.
