Peru, Nebraska- In the wake of the June 2016 shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, artists from
around the world have come together to write short plays in reaction to the tragedy.
These plays create a space to remember, mourn and celebrate those who are gone and
those who still remain.
To quote playwright and AFTER ORLANDO collaborator Caridad Svitch: “Through our art,
we attend to the necessary fragility of life, rather than the making of life into
non-life, rising a little to the ethical demand of these times with strong words,
hope, faith and open empathetic lines of the heart.”
AFTER ORLANDO: An International Theatre Action is a one-night-only event. The actors
will present the material as a script-in-hand reading as per the instructions of the
event’s creators, so that the focus remains primarily on the text.
In lieu of purchasing a ticket, audience members are encouraged to donate cash or
a clean personal care product for Project Response, Inc. a crisis center that provides
support and advocacy to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other related
issues.
After Orlando will be presented on Thursday, December 1 at 5:30 p.m. in the Peru College
Theatre.
