Kyle McAndrews (pictured on the left) and Hayden Kusy have both submitted manuscripts for publication describing previously unknown parasite species of fishes from their work with Dr. Barger in Texas. Kyle has described a new species of Caecincola trematode from white crappie, and Hayden (now graduated) described a new species of Macroderoides trematode from spotted gar. The work Kyle and Hayden have completed was funded by the NSF and reports on recent discoveries in the Big Thicket National Preserve and surrounding areas. These are the 8th and 9th new species discovered and described as part of this ongoing project.
