Peru, Nebraska- Twenty-seven Peru State College students competed in the 2015-2016 Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference held in Kearney, Nebraska. Those 27 students brought home more than 70 top ten finishes including 17 first place awards.

Peru State PBL Students

Dr. Sheri Grotrian-Ryan, Phi Beta Lambda faculty advisor and associate professor, writes, “As you can see from the lengthy list of awards, Peru State College Phi Beta Lambda did extremely well again this year!”

“In addition to the state awards, 22 students automatically qualified for Nationals.”

The top 2 or 3 finishes, depending on the contest, are automatically eligible to compete at the National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia this June. Students can compete in only 2 events at Nationals.

Grotrian-Ryan adds, “Since we have several students that will need to choose which events to compete in nationally, other students may ‘move up’ in the standings as participants decide which events they will enter.”

The Peru State College PBL chapter was also recognized with a Gold Level Excellence Award. Gold Level Excellence is the highest level possible and shows that the chapter contributed to regional and national conferences; PBL public relations; community service; and fundraising.

It was also noted that the Peru State PBL chapter has the second largest local four-year college membership.
