Peru, Nebraska- Peru State College will host the state spring workshops for the National Association
of Teachers of Singing (NATS) for the first time on Friday April 1. Voice professors
and instructors from across the state and surrounding region are invited to attend.
The NATS guest clinician is Dr. Kenneth Bozeman, author of Practical Vocal Acoustics, and Frank C. Shattuck Professor of Music at Lawrence University in Wisconsin. Dr.
Bozeman provides a sound, scientific approach to teaching voice that may prove to
be the future of singing technique.
Dr. Jacob Bartlett, assistant professor at Peru State College, said, “Our students
and community will greatly benefit from his nuanced use of technology in the studio.”
Bozeman says of his approach, “This . . . represents an attempt to distill from the
science of vocal acoustics those factors that are essential for teachers . . .”
Peru State College Students will be attending Friday, as well as have their own master
class on Saturday, April 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Jindra Fine Arts choir room.
The public is invited to attend the Saturday master class.
The entire vocal studio will be attending the workshop, but selected students will
work with Dr. Bozeman on vocal fundamentals through a scientific/acoustic focus. Students
singing include Taylor Eltiste, Casey Myers, Emily LeCleir, Shalissa Hutson, Katie
Umland and Derick Pounds.
The Nebraska NATS Spring Meeting will also take place on campus. Nebraska NATS is
a professional service organization that serves singing teachers and voice educators
in the state of Nebraska by promoting the art of singing through its student auditions
and providing continuing education for teachers through workshops.
