Peru, Nebraska- Dr. Naser Alsharif, founder and director of the Middle East Culture and Education
Center in Omaha, will be visiting Peru State College on Tuesday, February 9. He will
give a free, public presentation on “Being Muslim in America” in the Jindra Recital
Hall at 5:30 p.m.
Dr. Alsharif’s visit is sponsored by the Council for Inclusion and is part of Diversity
Awareness Month programming at Peru State. His visit will also include closed presentations
to Peru State classes including Human Growth and Development, International Business
and Abnormal Psychology.
Dr. Alsharif is an American-Muslim of Palestinian Ancestry and a professor in the
Department of Pharmacy Sciences at Creighton University. He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy
(Pharm.D) and a Masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Nebraska
Medical Center. He also holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacy from Creighton University.
Dr. Alsharif was the recipient of Creighton University’s John P. Schlegel Diversity
Award for Excellence and Innovation (2013) and the Distinguished Education in Teaching
as Scholarship (2014). He is also the 2000 and 2006 winner of the Innovation in Teaching
Award Competition and received an honorable mention for the same award in 2002 and
2004 from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
In addition to serving as Director of the Middle East Cultural and Educational Services
in Omaha, Dr. Alsharif has served as a moderator for the Muslim Student Association
at Creighton University; President of the Arab-American Heritage Society; board member
of the American Institute of Islamic Studies and Culture; member of the Board of the
Trifaith Initiative; President of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee;
on the advisory board of Avenue Scholars; on the advisory board for the Conference
for Inclusive Communities; on the Hate Crime Coordinating Council; and as a member
of the Islamic Speaker Bureau.
