Peru, Nebraska- The Peru State College Student Senate announced their selection of Jackson Howard of Provo, Utah, as the grand marshal of the Homecoming Parade held on October 1. Howard attended Peru State College in 1943 as a part of the V-12 program. Howard rose to the rank of Captain during his tenure with the U.S. Navy.

One of the most experienced lawyers in the state of Utah, Jackson Howard has also earned the reputation of being among the top attorneys in the state. He established the original law firm of Howard and Lewis, which in 1973 became Howard, Lewis & Petersen, P.C., which is today the oldest law firm in Utah County.

Over the past 50 years Jackson has held many prestigious positions within the legal community, such as District Attorney, Utah State Bar Commissioner, Utah State Legislative Counsel, Utah State District Attorney’s Association, Board of Governors, Utah Trial Lawyers Association, and Special Assistant Attorney General for Condemnation.

Jackson Howard has six children, two of whom are lawyers, one being a judge. Jackson knows well the sacrifice of military service; his eldest son died while in service to our country, and his youngest son was deployed for 18 months to the Iraq region.

Jackson has received many honors and awards throughout his distinguished career. Among them are 1984 Trial Lawyer of the Year and fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Howard is also the only Utah member of the Inner Circle of Advocates. This organization is an exclusive group consisting of the 100 best trial lawyers in the nation, as chosen by their peers.

Howard majored in business at the University of Texas, Austin, Texas, and received his J.D. from the University of Utah College of Law, Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1950.

President Dan Hanson said, “Jackson Howard has spoken highly of his experience at Peru State College for more than seventy years. We are proud to have such a distinguished lawyer among our alums and pleased to honor him as Grand Marshal.”

Howard will be honored on Saturday, Oct. 1 in the homecoming parade. As grand marshal, he will also be performing the coin toss for the Bobcat football game vs. Baker University at 2 p.m.
